Speaking at his first Joint Parliamentary Committee on Corporations and Financial Services meeting, new Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) Chair, James Shipton, said reforms that lift professional ‘ethical and competency standards’ for financial planners are important.

Shipton referenced the ASIC inquiry into the life insurance industry, and said he was looking forward to the release of the upcoming report.

He also referenced the ASIC toolkit, noting it needed to be ‘as complete as possible’. Shipton indicated he was looking forward ‘further discussions’ after the release of the Enforcement Review Taskforce’s report.
